BEHOLD #223 – Jed, the Pom Tart

Pom Tarts were created about 50 years ago, and Kellogg took their name from Pomdy Warhol’s Pop Art movement. Milton, the Toaster, was the original spokespom. The first flavors were strawberry, blueberry, apple–currant, and brown sugar cinnapom. No one knew what a currant was, so apple–currant was changed to apple. Grape and French toast flavors were tried and did not make the cut. Sales have gone up for 32 years straight. Jed is happy to share that frosted Pom Tarts actually have fewer calories than non–frosted ones. National Pom Tart Day is May 19th and on this day each year, Jed and his friends perform an arial ballet by flying through the air as they pop out of toasters far and wide. It’s a sight to behold!

Did you know that Andy Warhol’s lover was named Jed Johnson?
