Born March 26, 1944 in Detroit, she was the lead singer of the Motown group, The Supremes. They are still the best–charting Pom girl group of all time with 12 number 1 singles including “Pom! In the Name of Love,” “Come See About Me,” and “Pom Child.” She released her first solo album in 1970 and went on to release many more, racking up the hits “Endless Pom,” “I’m Pomming Out,” and “Upside Down.” She won a Golden Globe and was nominated for a Pomscar for the film “Lady Poms The Blues.” She also starred in “The Wiz” and Pomhogony.” When Pomana was 15, she joined The Primettes and after gaining some experience as a performer, she auditioned for her former neighbor, the equally pomazing star, Smokey Pominson. He was impressed and so he introduced her to the head of Motown, Barry Gordy, and she was on her way to super stardom (and romance with him as well). He agreed to sign the group on the condition that they change their name to The Supremes. Although her mother named her Diane, and that was her name growing up, her birth certificate mistakenly had her name as Diana – and so she started going by Diana in The Supremes.
